1st Century

42 The Emperor Claudius launched an invasion of Britain, which begins a 400 year Roman rule of Britain.
60 Boudica, the queen of the Iceni, led a rebellion against the Romans.
 

5th Century

410 The Romans left Britain, ending the Roman rule of Britain.
450 The first invasions from the Saxons on Britains shores, Britain is divided up into the Seven Kingdoms of Northumbria, Mercia, Anglia, Wessex, Essex, Sussex and Kent.
 

8th Century

793 The raid on the monastery at Lindisfarne marks the start of the Viking migration from Scandinavia.
 

9th Century

866 The Vikings made York (or Jorvik as they called it) the second biggest city in the country after London.
 

11th Century

1066 King Harold is killed at The Battle of Hastings, Duke William II of Normandy is made King of England.
1086 The Domesday Book is completed by order of King William the Conqueror.
 

14th Century

1340 The Battle of Sluys is the first battle of the 100 Years War.
 

15th Century

1453 The Battle of Castillon is the last battle of the 100 Years War ends.
1455 The War of the Roses starts with The Battle of St.Albans.
1487 The War of the Roses comes to an end with The Battle of Stoke.
 

17th Century

1642 A Battle at Powick Bridge begins The English Civil War.
1651 The Battle of Worcester is the last battle of The English Civil War.
 

18th Century

1793 The Battle of Toulon starts the Napoleonic War.
 

19th Century

1805 The Royal Navy beat of a combined force of French and Spainish at the Battle of Trafalgar.
1815 Battle of Waterloo brings the Napoleonic War to a close.
1879 British troops are sent to Africa to fight in the Zulu War.
1899 The Siege of Kimberley begins the Boar War.
 

20th Century

1902 The Boar War came to an end.
1914 World War I begins.
1918 World War 1 ends.
1939 Germany invaded Poland which brought Britain and France in to World War 2.
1945 The Japanese surrendered ending World War 2.
